TikTok Comments Not Loading? How to Fix It

Most of the time it is the connection or the app: switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data, clear the app's cache, update and restart. If comments are missing on one video only, the creator's settings are the likelier cause. Each fix below is from TikTok's own troubleshooting pages unless it says otherwise.

TikTok's troubleshooting steps, in the order worth trying them:

  • Make sure you are logged in.
  • Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data.
  • Clear the cache: Settings and privacy, then clear the app's video cache.
  • Restart the app, then restart the phone.
  • Update TikTok to the latest version.

How do you fix TikTok comments not loading on a computer?

From TikTok's "Unable to load comments" page:

  • Desktop browser: refresh the page, then restart the browser.
  • Phone browser: switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data, refresh, restart the browser, then restart the phone.

Why are comments missing on one TikTok video?

If other videos load fine, the cause is usually that video's settings rather than your app:

  • The creator has turned comments off for it. How to turn off comments on TikTok shows what that looks like from their side.
  • The creator limits comments to followers or friends.
  • The creator's filters are holding comments for approval or hiding spam, offensive or keyword-matched comments. Those never appear until approved.

Why can't you post a comment on TikTok?

When comments load but yours will not post, TikTok names three causes:

  • Commenting too quickly triggers an alert. TikTok's advice is to wait 24 hours.
  • An account restriction. Repeated violations can lead to temporary limits on features such as commenting. Violations expire after 90 days, and any notice is in your Inbox under System notifications, Account updates.
  • On a LIVE: you may be banned from LIVE comments after a violation, or muted by the host or a moderator. See can't send or see comments in LIVE.

What if nothing works?

Report it to TikTok from the app: the help article's Need more help? link opens a support request. On the web, answer No to "Was this helpful?" and the same link appears. We could not find a public TikTok status page, so an outage is hard to confirm from outside.

If you only need to read a public video's comments, the TikTok comment viewer fetches them independently of your app and account, so it works even while your app will not load them. The same goes for drawing a giveaway winner: the TikTok comment picker never touches your app.
