How to Do a Giveaway on TikTok LIVE

There are two workable ways to run a giveaway on TikTok LIVE. If you sell through TikTok Shop, TikTok's own LIVE Giveaway feature runs the entry and the draw inside the stream, and in the US its policy says you must use it. If you do not, announce the giveaway on the LIVE, take entries as comments on a video, and draw from those. What does not work is drawing from the LIVE chat itself, and this page explains why before it explains the rest.

Is there a TikTok LIVE comment picker?

Not one that draws from the chat afterwards. Messages in a LIVE are a chat, not comments on a posted video, and TikTok documents no way to export them as a list. Its LIVE replays page describes a video recording you can view, download or clip for 30 days, and says nothing about the chat.

That is why the comment picker on this site does not read LIVE chat, and why it is worth asking any tool that says it does where it gets the messages. A draw that nobody can re-check against a list of entries is a draw everyone has to take on trust.

How does TikTok Shop's LIVE Giveaway work?

LIVE Giveaway is a TikTok Shop tool that runs the whole giveaway inside the stream. Per TikTok's LIVE Giveaway guide for US sellers, it is open to sellers with an official TikTok Shop account, sellers with a TikTok Shop marketing account, and creators. You set it up before or during the LIVE, in LIVE Manager on a computer or under LIVE tools in the app.

You choose a prize (one you type in, or a product from your shop), a quantity, a duration, and up to two entry tasks. Viewers enter from the giveaway icon at the top of the LIVE, and TikTok picks and notifies the winners itself.

  • Entry tasks, at most two: follow the host, comment a phrase you choose, watch for a minimum time, or make a purchase. If you use the purchase task, TikTok says non-buyers must be able to enter through a short form with an equal chance.
  • Duration must be at least two minutes longer than any minimum watch time you set.
  • Winners get a pop-up, an inbox message and a push notification, and have 48 hours to submit a shipping address or the prize is forfeited.
  • You pay shipping, and TikTok says a seller who fails to deliver even one giveaway order loses access to the feature.
  • Only viewers who can see your shopping cart see the giveaway, and emoji-only comments do not count as entries.

What are TikTok's rules for LIVE giveaways?

For TikTok Shop sellers and creators in the US, the Giveaways and Promotions Policy (updated 28 September 2026) covers giveaways in LIVEs, short videos and product listings alike, and it is stricter than most hosts expect.

If you are not on TikTok Shop, your giveaway sits under the same Community Guidelines as any other post, and under the promotion law where you and your entrants are. TikTok giveaway rules covers that case. Shop policy also differs by country, so outside the US, read the Seller University page for your own market.

  • Free to enter, and nothing required beyond entering.
  • Prizes worth under $500. No cash and no gift cards.
  • Use TikTok Shop's official LIVE Giveaway feature. Where it is not available, the policy allows only "join to win" (enter by joining the LIVE and interacting) and "comment to win" (enter by commenting during the LIVE).
  • State the terms in the content itself. Gamification is not allowed.
  • Ship the prizes within TikTok Shop's standard shipping window.

How do you run a LIVE giveaway with a comment picker?

Use the LIVE to drive entries and a posted video to hold them. Comments on a video stay put, can be read by anyone, and can be drawn from with rules applied, which is everything a LIVE chat is not. If you sell through TikTok Shop in the US, the policy above points you at LIVE Giveaway instead; this route is for creators who are not running a Shop promotion.

  • Post the giveaway video first, with the rules in the caption: how to enter, the closing time with a timezone, who can enter, and how the winner will be announced. TikTok giveaway ideas has caption templates.
  • Go LIVE and point viewers at it. Say it out loud, and pin a comment in the LIVE chat that tells viewers which video to comment on. Pinning in LIVE is app only and lasts a short while, so repeat it.
  • Make the video comment the only entry. Say plainly that messages in the LIVE chat do not count, or you will spend the draw explaining why someone who typed in the chat did not win.
  • Close entries at the stated time, then paste the video link into the comment picker, apply the rules from the caption, and draw winners and backups together.
  • Draw where viewers can watch, at the end of that LIVE or on the next one, and read out the entry count and the winner.

How do you announce a TikTok LIVE giveaway winner?

Say it on the LIVE, then put it in writing on the giveaway video. A LIVE is gone when it ends, and the replay is yours alone for 30 days, so a winner announced only on stream leaves nothing for an entrant who missed it. A comment on the entry video, naming the winner, the number of entries and the claim window, is the record everyone can find.

Download the replay from TikTok Studio if you want your own copy of the draw on stream. The winner announcement templates cover the comment and the message to the winner, and how to run a TikTok giveaway covers what to do when the winner never replies.

  • Never ask a winner for payment, card details or a login. On TikTok Shop's LIVE Giveaway, the winner claims through the app, not through your DMs.
